Travelocity Technology Team volunteers at Christian Community Action Center
Warm smiles greeted us as we entered the lobby of the Christian Community Action Center, located in Lewisville, Texas. The center provides a full range of services to the 42 communities within Collin, Dallas, Denton, Tarrant and Wise counties. For more than 35 years they have been feeding, sheltering, educating and training local families in need.

Our group of 30 was given a tour of the large facility with a behind the scenes look at their food pantry warehouse. This self-service food pantry helps over 650 low income families every week. We also toured the resale store where employees were sorting and pricing the clothing and household goods people had generously donated. One of the clever makeshift items is a conveyor belt comprised on re-purposed treadmills. This conveyor allows items to move easily along from one worker to the next. Their resale store is one of three that provides more than $5 million gross revenue annually to the ministry.
Another amazing program CCA offers is the Adult Health Care Center – providing low cost medical care. They offer a range of services including well visits and non-emergency treatment.
After our tour we were divided into two groups – about 16 people who wished to work inside (in the cool air conditioning) and those brave enough, about 12, to venture outside to work in the community vegetable garden.
